Let’s Dance with Lisa: A Celebration of Movement and Well-Being in East Midlands

On 28 February, the East Midlands Keep Fit Association hosted a special Let’s Dance event at Long Buckby Community Centre, offering a welcoming space for older adults to engage in movement designed to support healthy ageing. Led by Lisa Bigley, the event provided two unique dance sessions, ensuring accessibility for all participants.

A Dance Experience for Everyone

The event featured two tailored sessions:

– 11:45 AM – 12:45 PM – Active Standing Session in the Upper Hall, designed for those who enjoy standing movement with support.

– 1:15 PM – 2:15 PM – Seated Class in the Main Hall, offering a gentler approach to dance while ensuring engagement and mobility.

The theme of the event, “Move, Dance, Connect: Laban Dance for Fitness, Friendship, and Fun!”, captured the essence of the day—a joyful celebration of movement that encouraged participants to embrace dance in a way that suited their abilities.

The Power of Laban Dance for Ageing Well

Inspired by Rudolf Laban’s renowned approach to movement analysis, the sessions combined gentle, rhythmic movement with creative choreography, promoting flexibility, strength, and social connection. The event was designed to help participants stay active, enhance coordination, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of dance.

A Warm and Inclusive Atmosphere

With no need to book, attendees were free to drop in and join the experience. The welcoming atmosphere of Long Buckby Community Centre provided the perfect setting for fitness, friendship, and fun, ensuring that every participant felt comfortable and encouraged.
